Barcelona has many options for a great night out and, contrary to what many tourists may think, there are some amazing free performances to see. All you have to do is know when and where they are!
In this article we suggest some of the most beautiful shows in the city (the light show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc). We reveal the most popular streets for street performances, and we recommend bars with live music and free entrance.
Light show at the Magic Fountain in Montjuïc
Montjuïc, near Plaza España, is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the whole city. All year round, its impressive fountain puts on a fantastic free light display with music. This one really is worth a watch if you’re visiting the city. You’ll find the timetables on this website.
At World Experience we give you the opportunity to spend a magical night watching the Montjuïc fountain show along with a night-time tour of Barcelona.
We’ll start at 7 pm on Paseo de Gracia, seeing some of the city’s most symbolic buildings like La Pedrera, La Casa Batlló and La Casa Amatller. When we get to Plaza Catalunya, we’ll hop on a luxury minibus with a guide who will explain all the fun facts Barcelona has to offer.
After going along the seafront we’ll climb to the top of Montjuïc where the fountain awaits us with its lights, colours, music and water displays. To finish, we’ll head back to the old town for a cocktail in one of the most unique bars in Barcelona. Are you coming with us?
Barcelona’s city centre streets
Strolling around Barcelona and stumbling upon live music is an everyday pleasant experience, above all when you find a young talented individual trying to earn some money in the street by promoting their own music.
Portal del Ángel is one of the most popular streets for artists as thousands of people walk down it every day. At the end of this street is Barcelona’s cathedral and the square in front of it is also used as a make-shift stage for an endless array of acts.
Ciutadella Park is another place where you’re likely to find live music; the park’s calm atmosphere means that it’s a great setting for reggae and jazz.
The seafront promenade, especially in summer, Paseo de Lluís Companys and Plaza Catalunya are other common places to find live music for free both day and night.
Bars with free live music in Barcelona
To round off our list, we recommend a few bars with free live music bringing the nightlife to locals and tourists alike. Make a note of the following places:
Quilombo (Calle Aribau, 149).
The Philarmonic (Calle Mallorca, 204)
Mediterráneo (Calle Balmes, 129)
Jazzman (Calle Roger de Flor, 238)
Tinta Roja Espai d’Art (Calle Creu dels Molers nº17)
